The voice we do not want to hear

“And Micaiah said, As the LORD liveth, even what my God saith, that will I speak.”2 Chronicles 18:13 · KJV

Read in your Bible: 2 Chronicles 16–18.

Asa resists prophetic correction, and Jehoshaphat later joins Ahab in a campaign surrounded by reassuring voices. Micaiah refuses to reshape his message to please the king. The chapters expose the danger of seeking counsel only from people who confirm what we already want.

Truth is not decided by the number of agreeable advisers. Yet claiming to be a lone voice is no proof of being right either; counsel must be tested by Scripture and facts. Humility includes willingness to hear a correction that unsettles a preferred plan.

Invite a thoughtful challenge to a decision you are eager to make. Listen without punishing the person for disagreeing. Compare the counsel carefully rather than accepting either comfort or opposition as automatically trustworthy.

A question to sit with

Who can disagree with me without losing my goodwill?

AN EVERYDAY ACT OF LOVE

Ask a trusted person what risk or weakness they see in a plan you favour.

Let us pray

God of truth, free me from seeking only agreeable answers. Give me humility to hear correction, discernment to test counsel and courage to change a plan when the evidence requires it. Amen.
