When obedience makes the burden heavier

“Wherefore say unto the children of Israel, I am the LORD, and I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, and I will rid you out of their bondage, and I will redeem you with a stretched out arm, and with great judgments:”Exodus 6:6 · KJV

Read in your Bible: Exodus 4–6.

Moses obeys the call to speak, but Pharaoh increases Israel's workload. The people become discouraged, and Moses brings his complaint to God. The Lord answers by reaffirming His covenant and intention to bring them out.

Early difficulty does not by itself prove that an obedient step was mistaken. Nor does this account authorise leaders to dismiss people's exhaustion. Moses' complaint and Israel's anguish remain in Scripture, inviting honest prayer rather than a performance of confidence.

Let a discouraged person tell the truth about the weight they carry. Avoid a quick promise that everything will improve tomorrow. Help with a practical burden while holding to promises God has actually given in Scripture.

A question to sit with

Do I make room for exhaustion when I speak about faith?

AN EVERYDAY ACT OF LOVE

Take over one manageable task for someone who is overwhelmed.

Let us pray

Covenant Lord, meet us when obedience does not bring immediate relief. Give me honest words in prayer and patient compassion for people too weary to hear easy reassurance. Amen.
