Awake to lasting hope

“And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.”Daniel 12:2 · KJV

Read in your Bible: Daniel 11–12; Hosea 1.

Daniel's final visions describe severe conflict and end with a promise that sleepers in the dust will awake. The prophet is told to rest and stand in his allotted place at the end. Hosea then opens with a confronting sign of covenant unfaithfulness.

Resurrection hope treats death as a real enemy Christ will overcome, not an illusion hiding an already conscious immortal soul. The difficult time language calls for careful study rather than a new date for the Second Coming. Faithfulness remains possible without resolving every debated detail.

Remember a person who has died and entrust your grief to the God of resurrection. Let the future hope strengthen a present duty. Avoid sharing an alarming timetable simply because its confidence sounds persuasive.

A question to sit with

What present act of faithfulness could resurrection hope help me sustain?

AN EVERYDAY ACT OF LOVE

Offer comfort to someone bereaved and decline to pass on an unverified end-time date claim.

Let us pray

God of resurrection, hold our grief within Your promise of life. Give me patient hope, care with prophecy and strength for the ordinary faithfulness that remains mine while I await Christ's return. Amen.
