Who touched whom?

“And he said unto her, Daughter, be of good comfort: thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace.”Luke 8:48 · KJV

Read in your Bible: Luke 8–9.

As Jesus travels to Jairus's home, a woman touches His garment after years of illness and exclusion. He stops to address her, and the story continues into another household's grief and restoration. The interruption is not treated as a person getting in the way of the main event.

Christ honours the woman openly rather than leaving her hidden behind a cure. Her particular healing is not a method for guaranteeing relief from every chronic condition. The encounter invites care for people whose long suffering includes social isolation as well as physical pain.

Notice a person living with a long-term condition. Ask what support is welcome and respect their privacy. Do not offer an explanation for why recovery has not come; provide a kindness that acknowledges their life beyond the illness.

A question to sit with

Who has become invisible to me because their need has lasted a long time?

AN EVERYDAY ACT OF LOVE

Check in with someone living with chronic illness and offer a specific, welcome form of support.

Let us pray

Attentive Saviour, sustain those carrying long illness and isolation. Help me honour their dignity, respect their privacy and offer practical companionship without reducing them to a condition or promising a cure. Amen.
