A life is more than its storehouse
Read in your Bible: Luke 12–13.
Jesus warns against covetousness through the story of a rich man planning larger barns while ignoring his mortality. He also teaches trust, readiness and repentance. The following chapter rejects the assumption that particular victims of disaster were worse sinners than others.
Possessions cannot carry the weight of a whole life's meaning. At the same time, Jesus' words forbid an easy equation between suffering and personal guilt. A faithful response joins responsible provision with generosity and humility about the limits of our control.
Review one accumulation of money, possessions or commitments. Ask what is genuinely needed and what is driven by fear or status. Share responsibly, and resist explaining another person's hardship as proof of inferior faith or virtue.

Life-giving Lord, loosen the hold of covetousness and false security. Teach me responsible provision, generous sharing and compassion that refuses to judge another person's suffering by a theory I cannot know. Amen.
