Breakfast after failure

“He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep.”John 21:17 · KJV

Read in your Bible: John 19–21.

John records Jesus' completed sacrifice, the empty tomb and His appearances to the disciples. Beside the lake, the risen Lord provides breakfast and speaks with Peter about love and the care of His flock. Restoration moves toward responsibility rather than a return to boastful confidence.

Peter's failure does not become the final word, but his renewed commission centres care for others. Grace is not permission to dismiss accountability or demand instant trust from people harmed. It makes a humble, faithful future possible through the living Christ.

Receive Christ's call without pretending a past failure was harmless. Take an appropriate step of repair, and serve someone with the patience your own restoration has required. Let love be measured in care rather than in a confident claim about your devotion.

A question to sit with

What practical care would express love more truthfully than a renewed promise?

AN EVERYDAY ACT OF LOVE

Offer a patient act of service and make one appropriate repair where you have failed.

Let us pray

Risen Saviour, thank You for grace after failure. Lead me into truthful repair and humble service, and make my love for You visible in patient care for people rather than in impressive promises. Amen.
