The foundation beneath our favourite leader

“For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.”1 Corinthians 3:11 · KJV

Read in your Bible: 1 Corinthians 1–5.

Paul confronts factions gathered around preferred teachers, then addresses pride and serious misconduct. The church's foundation is Jesus Christ, while different workers serve according to their task. Boasting in a leader distracts from the Lord whose people they are.

No teacher's skill places them beyond correction or makes another believer inferior. Unity does not require concealing serious wrongdoing; the same letter demands accountability. A healthy response keeps Christ central while valuing workers without turning gratitude into a factional identity.

Notice whose name you use to dismiss someone before hearing their argument. Test teaching by Scripture and maintain respect for sincere questions. Support accountability within your own preferred group rather than assuming its reputation guarantees its conduct.

A question to sit with

Does loyalty to a teacher make me less willing to examine a fair criticism?

AN EVERYDAY ACT OF LOVE

Consider one disputed claim on its biblical merits rather than the reputation of the person presenting it.

Let us pray

Lord Jesus, keep Your church grounded in You. Free us from pride in favourite leaders, give us care with truth and make gratitude for teachers consistent with honest accountability and mutual respect. Amen.
