A gift tended rather than displayed

“Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.”1 Timothy 4:12 · KJV

Read in your Bible: 1 Timothy 4–6; 2 Timothy 1–2.

Paul urges Timothy to become an example in conduct, attend to teaching and persevere in his responsibilities. He warns about the love of money and later encourages courage through God's gift rather than a spirit of fear. A calling needs sustained formation.

Youth does not make faithful contribution impossible, but confidence alone does not replace character or preparation. Spiritual gifts should serve people rather than shield their bearer from correction. Courage also does not require denying anxiety or refusing appropriate support.

Choose one aspect of conduct that should support the words you teach or share. Practise it in a small, observable way. Encourage a younger person's contribution while providing the patient guidance that makes responsibility sustainable.

God of faithful courage, help me tend what You have entrusted to me. Join teaching to character, confidence to preparation and encouragement to the practical support that enables people to grow. Amen.
